EUROPOS PARK
SEPTEMBER 2008

How Europos Park came to be goes something like this:

Nineteen year old Lithuanian artists, Gintaras Karosas, discovers in 1987, that the center of the Europe is located in Lithuania.  He gets the idea to build an open-air museum dedicated to sculpture and to celebrate this local 'core'.  By 1991, Karosas (with the help of the French National Geographic Institute) pinpoint the exact center of Europe and Karosas creates his first sculpture here. Between the years of 1991-2006, more than 100 artists from over 30 countries have participated in art projects at Europos Park.

The museum is all outdoors, in a richly wooded area.  Experiencing the museum is like taking a leisurely hike, with some turns and corners revealing interesting surprises.  It's a cool idea.  And the exhibit spans over 55 hectacres. www.europosparkas.lt.
