KOTOR, MONTENEGRO
AUGUST 2008

Kotor is about a 1 hours drive from Dubrovnik. Much of the drive is beautiful, with high peaked mountains and glistening waters. Its a cool little walled town nestled along the waters edge and used to play an important role as a marina, for those traveling between Turkey and Italy.  There are many old churches, cafes and souvenir shops within the walls. The walls themselves are immensely thick and proved to be great barriers against possible pirates.

The "Great Wall of Kotor" actually begins on the waterfront and meanders up a hillside for three miles, resembling the Great Wall of China. The wall in Kotor took over 1,000 years to complete. It was started during the 9th century and completed in the 19th.
