OISE-AISNE AMERICAN CEMETERY

Not far from our chateau in Fere-en-Tardenois is the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery.  There are over 6,000 American heroes buried here from World War I. The cemetery is located at the exact location where the 42nd American Division fought.  The cemetery itself is one of the finest we've visited and it's always amazing to us that, despite our being in a foreign country, the American cemeteries are always very well tended to and much respect is given to the gravesites.  They are clean, perfectly manicured and always serene.

During our visit, we were fortunate enough to meet Jeff, an American in charge of Oise-Aisne.  He was full of information regarding all of the WWI sites within the area, the stories of the men buried here and just an overall great resource.  If you are in the vicinity or passing by on your way to Chateau de Fere in Fere-en-Tardenois, be sure to stop and give thanks to these fallen men!  While there, stop into the visitors center, sign the book and say hello to Jeff (and his family).  And who knows...you just might learn something new.  At the very least, you'll leave feeling even more proud as an American. And there's nothing wrong with that!

Go to www.abmc.gov for more information about WWI and WWII cemeteries and sites in Europe.
