BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
April 2005

Some of you may know, others may not, that Budapest is actually made up of two cities, Buda and Pest.  The two sides are separated by the Danube River.  Buda is a much more subdued side with churches, museums and lush green hills.  Pest is more of the up and coming metropolis, filled with shops, restaurants and businesses.  Hungary is still struggling to overcome its Communist past and is still hurting financially. Within the center of Buda and Pest, you won't find too many bargains.  If you venture out a little, things are quite inexpensive, but English isn't spoken too widely on the outskirts.  Still visible in some parts of Pest are bullet holes (some still containing bullets), souvenirs from the war.

We stayed at Art Otel, which was located in Buda, at the base of Castle Hill.  Great hotel, great location.  If you do visit here, the Buda side offers the most amazing little restaurant, CafePierrot, www.pierrot.hu.  We ate like kings and left like gluttons.  The restaurant is situated up on the hilltops of Castle Hill (near Buda) and offer the most impressive views at night!  That alone is worth the trip.
