Palace of Versailles....the castle of all castles.  This palace was built by King Louis XIV (or paid for by him anyway, as he used half a year of France's income to pay for it...and France was Europe's richest country back then).  And no expense was spared in this palace, as every inch of it...walls, floors, ceilings all ooze of royalty and wealth.  It is a spectacle to behold! 

In 1789, the French Revolution began.The King Louis XVI and his wife...the famed Marie Antoinette were evicted from the Versailles Palace.  And so it was off to the guillotine...

King Louis Philippe opened the palace as a museum in 1837.
