PARIS, FRANCE
MAY 2007
This was my fifth trip to Paris (third since living here) and I have to say, I never tire of it. There is sooo much to see and do. We started the day at Pere Lachaise Cemetery, Notre Dame Cathedral (stopping to light a candle for my Dad who was in the hospital), then on to the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, down the ENTIRE Champs-Elysees, stopping to watch Liam Neeson during his film shoot, then on to the Louvre.
From what I've heard, it would take over one year to see everything that resides within the Louvre. It is a monsterous complex that is as stunning in architecture as is the artwork lining the walls and hallways. When we arrived at the Louvre (4pm), we were told they were closing at 5:30pm that evening (hmm...could Mr. Liam Neeson be moving his filming to the museum???). So we had a brief 1 1/2 hours to hit the arts. Naturally, we sped off to see Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa...taking in all that we could along the way. It was a shame to be power-walking passed all the da Vinci's, Michaelangelo's, Botticelli's and glorious Greek sculptures..but perhaps next trip (October), we'll have a better opportunity to take in their beauty with the appreciation and respect they deserve.
