LATVIA
Latvia is one of those countries that I thought would be unique and different to visit....it's not quite so tourist-laden as say Paris or Rome. I have an interest in the Eastern Bloc countries...what once was taboo and forbidden, is now open...why not check it out? I'm glad we did. Latvia is a great country, about the size of Ireland. Once ruled by the Soviet Union, it became an independent state in 1991. In 1999, Latvia elected the first woman president of an ex-USSR country. There is plenty of Art Nouveau influence around in art and architecture....a favorite for me, so I took a shining to sweet little Latvia!
