This was my first visit to Rome since the mid-80's and I must say, I appreciate it much more at 38 than I did as a 16 year old. The history and ruins within the city were enough to make my head spin.  I still have a difficult time wrapping my head around the idea that architectural remains still stand erect after a couple thousand years. 

And just as a side note, I've read quite a bit on the pickpockets of Rome.  As a result, I reminded Mom and Kathy several times a day to be alert and whooooo gets their wallet stolen? Yup....you guessed it. Me.  Spent an hour in the Rome police station at the airport (as my wallet was stolen in the airport, on my exit from Rome...how do ya like them apples??).  Didn't mind that one hour of police reports, as all the Italian police were beyond handsome.  So if you are going to get something stolen, girls.....pray that it is in Italy!!
