BURANO, ITALY
AUGUST 2007
What can I say about Burano other than....I CANNOT BELIEVE I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE BEFORE!!! This is the most beautiful, candy-for-the-eyes little island ever. Loved it! Every corner you turns offers up crayola colors that would make the gloomiest of persons happy.
Mom and I started weaving our way through the narrow streets and found ourselves facing our biggest score on the island of Burano: Riva Rosa: an insanely delicious restaurant and wine bar. They don't have a website, but should you visit Burano and care to partake in divine Italian cuisine, Riva Rosa is on Via San Muaro, 296. Ask for Prasanna or Michele...both offer excellent service and friendly conversation.
And some information about Burano: it is part of the Venetian lagoon, about 1 hour by boat from Venice. It is known for it's lacework and I have to say, I've never been one for lace, but seeing the detail and work that goes into handmade lace.....I'm amazed and a new fan. Be sure to check out the store, Emilia...here you can shop and watch women working on fine lace. Julia Roberts is one of the many customers of Emilia....
