PERAST, MONTENEGRO
AUGUST 2008

Perast is another waterside village, but one with a strong Italian feel. Back in the 17th and 18th centuries, the city was booming and it was known to be a very affluent area.  This was due to its relations with Venice - Perast served as a protector of the bay and Venice offered the city the benefit of being tax-free. All the glitz and glamour ceased when Napoleon took Venice. The rich living of Perast came to a screeching halt and dwindle into the relics of today. It's a small, interesting place to walk around and it offers some stunning views of the bay and the Island of St. George and Island of Our Lady of The Rock. Not much going on here beside some nice little cafes to sip and dine your days away - and a handful of tourable churches and towers.
